Prayers of Praise
If I am not careful, voicing prayers of praise and adoration to God can be difficult for me. Its not that I don’t find God praiseworthy - not at all. Its that my mind is obviously limited and admittedly small. When I attempt to describe an unlimited and omniscient Almighty God, I am trying to describe Someone outside of my mental ability.
So, what should I do? The scriptures are crystal clear. I am commanded to praise the Lord.
Psalm 150:1-6 Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! 2 Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! 3 Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! 4 Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! 5 Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! 6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
I should continually and intentionally practice ways to praise the Lord.
Music? Listening to music that praises Him; in my car, while at work and home, when in worship I will sing. Music engages that creative, emotive, artistic part of my brain that needs to be expressed.
Together? We should be telling stories of God’s work in our lives; having spiritual conversations with one another, we should be telling one another how Jesus is being experienced in our lives.
Loudly? Our verbal praises should match our attitudes, our moods, our outlook, our perspective, our evaluation and treatment of others. If our words and our actions don’t match, we are two-faced phonies.
Let’s practice praising the Lord. We could never get good enough at this. Perhaps that is why we will praise him forever in eternity.
